Non-Public and Charter School Transportation

Students enrolled in non-public or charter schools are often entitled to pupil transportation services from Tallmadge City Schools.  Upon enrollment in a non-public or charter school school, parents/guardians wishing to have transportation services provided by Tallmadge Schools should contact Transportation Services at 330.633.2215 or email [email protected] to check availability of transport.

The Ohio Revised Code, Section 3327.01 enables a Board of Education to make payment in lieu of transportation for eligible students where it is impractical to transport a pupil by school conveyance. Such a determination is made for a non-public or charter school when there are an insufficient number of students to warrant the cost of transporting student(s), the District does not have a sufficient number of buses, and other factors.

Tallmadge City Schools provides payment-in-lieu-of-transportation to the parent/guardian for each eligible student attending a non-public or charter school that is not otherwise served by a Tallmadge Bus.  The payment amount is set by the Ohio Department of Education each year and paid out beginning in April of the current school year. Parents must request payment by completing the "Payment in Lieu of Transportation Form." The deadline to complete the form is March 1st of the school year to be reimbursed. For example, for students attending a non-public or charter school for the 2023-24 school year, the Payments in Lieu of Transportation form must be submitted before March 1, 2024 and payments will be disbursed beginning in April, 2024.
