Tallmadge High School Inducts 35 Students into National Honor Society

TALLMADGE, OHIO (Nov. 15, 2017) – Thirty-five Tallmadge High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) during the school’s NHS Induction Ceremony on Oct. 25, 2017. This year’s inductees included four seniors and 31 juniors. There are currently 55 students in the Tallmadge chapter.

“This year we had an impressive number of outstanding applicants,” said Cynthia Kasper, Tallmadge High School mathematics teacher and NHS advisor. “These students have gone above and beyond to demonstrate the society’s four pillars of scholarship, leadership, character and service.”

Senior inductees include: Emily Curtis, Phillip Glasser, Joel McMullen and Melissa Sincel. Junior inductees include: Emma Andrea, Jason Betts, Justin Betts, Zachary Brown, Isabel Chaplin, Meghan Christopher, Delanie Dadich, Meah Dixon, Abbigail Edwards, Leah Evans, Richard Eyre, Jason Grassie, Mackenzie Gray, Samantha Hayward, Richard Hipkins, Lauren Hobson, Ashleigh Hughes, Eric Hussing, Maria Kisha, Alexander Krukemeyer, Paige Leitner, Delaney Lucas, Lauren Moss, Emily Newenhisen, Parker Ramp, Brooke Santomauro, Dylan Theisen, Jessica Vardeman, Samuel Weyandt, Riley Williams and Mike Yamokoski.

NHS, founded in 1921, is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. In order to be considered for NHS, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.6, and must turn in an application highlighting their leadership and service through a variety of clubs, organizations and athletic opportunities. A faculty council then reads the applications and assigns a score to each application.

In addition, students are required to have four teachers and one club or athletic team advisor evaluate them on the four pillars.

As part of NHS, students will participate in nine different service actives throughout the year including Operation Christmas Card, Salvation Army bell ringing, creating Christmas Family blankets, making snacks for Dare to Share, a Poinsettia sales fundraiser, Santa Days, Leukemia and Lymphoma Pennies for Patients, and helping with the Teacher Appreciation reception and Senior Scholarship breakfast.

“We are so proud of the commitment these students have made to their academics, athletics and serving the community,” said Superintendent Jeff Ferguson. “Congratulations to our new NHS inductees. Your demonstration of leadership makes our school and community a better place and I look forward to witnessing the great things you will accomplish throughout the year.”
