SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE

This week we were thrilled to welcome students back to launch the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year. You can feel enthusiasm in the air as students, staff and families embark on a new adventure in learning.

Through the excitement of this new start, we pause to acknowledge the moments that got us to this point. The careful planning, protocols, hard work and dedication of our students, staff and families have allowed us to open our institutions for five-day per week, in-person learning, which we know is the most beneficial for students. Mask participation rates are currently more than 60% at Tallmadge Elementary and approximately 50% at the Middle School, which we hope will assist with keeping quarantine rates low. The delta variant spread will be closely monitored and, if necessary, the district will enact appropriate new measures to protect the health and safety of students.

As with the start of any new school year, it takes a bit of time to adjust to the normal routine. Please be patient with our school buses, as they may run behind for the first few weeks of schools as students and families acclimate to the new drop-off and pick-up times. The drivers and the transportation department are working hard to safely deliver your students to and from school.

We look forward to bringing Tallmadge Together through a variety of school functions that we've missed over the course of the last 18 months. I know our fans are looking forward to cheering our teams on from the stands; our music and drama students are ready to bring their talents to the stages, in front of adoring audiences; and our academic teams are already preparing for the opportunity to compete against students from other districts. We all look forward to sharing these experiences and successes together.

Our strategic plan will guide us through this school year. This plan was created to identify the goals and objectives necessary to make Tallmadge City Schools the excellent educational resource we know it to be. We encourage you to review our strategic plan here and think about your part in the success of this mission.

As we enjoy this first week back in school, we are thankful for the opportunity to be together again. Having lunch together. Learning together. Socializing together. Growing together. Together is where we belong, and we are ready for new adventures this school year.

Together in learning,
Steve Wood
Superintendent, Tallmadge City Schools

Safe Return to School Plan

The Tallmadge City School District's goal for the 2021-2022 school year is to provide an optimal learning experience through in-person, five-days per-week instruction. The protocols for a safe return to in-person learning for all grade levels are outlined in the attached guidelines. Masks are strongly recommended for grades K-8, and if you wish to for your child to NOT wear a mask, you must complete the attached Google form. For students in grades 9-12, masking and/or vaccination provides the best layer of protection against virus spread and resulting quarantine, as outlined by the Ohio Department of Health in this quarantine flowchart. The district will continue to closely monitor conditions as well as guidance from the CDC, Ohio Department of Health and Summit County Public Health Department and will adapt protocols accordingly.

Dont Forget: 2021-22 New School Schedule

New for the 2021-2022 school year, changes to the school day for select buildings will be implemented. In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion and to procure a stable bus schedule for all students, Tallmadge Elementary will remain with 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (3:15 p.m. for car riders), Tallmadge Middle School will follow a 7:45 a.m. to 2:43 p.m. schedule and Tallmadge High School will follow a 7:40 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. schedule. It is important to note that while the 5th grade class will physically move back into the Elementary School building this year, they will follow the schedule of TMS (7:45 a.m. to 2:43 p.m.).
