Tallmadge City Schools to release innovative math resource for students

TALLMADGE, OH – (July 6, 2022) – Tallmadge City Schools is proud to unveil a new math framework that reflects the district’s core beliefs of math instruction, with samples now available for public review.

Tallmadge City Schools established a Math Content Committee consisting of representatives from each grade level across the district. The committee met throughout the school year, developing the new District Math Framework and reviewing various math resources for use in classrooms.

Additionally, the entire 8-12 Math Department participated in a series of six professional development days with facilitator Steve Miller, the Summit County ESC math consultant. This work focused on assessment data analysis, vertical/horizontal alignment, District Math Framework discussion, and resource review.

“We’re excited by the work our teachers have done in working to improve and build upon our math curriculum,” said Tallmadge City Schools Superintendent Steve Wood. “They put in a lot of hours, fielded suggestions and considerations from all over the district and have put together a framework that will empower our students in their education.”

The Math Content Committee and the 8-12 Math Department met on June 21, to participate in presentations from the vendors for three different math programs. A teacher-developed rubric was utilized to evaluate these programs, with the K-8 staff choosing the Reveal Math Program and the 9-12 Math Department choosing Envision Mathematics.

“It’s important for us to develop a program that allows for our students to learn and grow in an environment that encourages collaboration and communication,” said Tallmadge City Schools Director of Curriculum Courtney A. Davis. “Our teachers and administrators worked hard to put together a math framework that is both rigorous and student-centered. We know this will pay dividends for our students for years to come.”

Samples of both resources are available to the public for review at the district’s central office or online here: K-8 Resource: Reveal Math; 9-12 Resource: Envision Mathematics.
