Tallmadge Head Football Coach Alan Vanderink Announces Resignation

TALLMADGE, OHIO (Jan. 16, 2010) – On Jan. 16, Tallmadge High School’s (THS) head football coach Alan Vanderink announced that he will resign from his coaching position effective immediately. Vanderink will remain on staff as the credit recovery teacher at THS until the end of the 2018-19 school year.

Vanderink’s decision comes largely as a result of Tallmadge City School District’s failed levy in November 2018. The failed levy creates the need for a spending reduction plan which often leads to layoffs for faculty and staff members.

Vanderink, who held the position of THS head football coach since 2016, attended Kent State University on a football scholarship and was a letter winner as a wide receiver, running back and kick returner.

Vanderink will be the head football coach and a teacher at Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Kent City School District beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.

“Tallmadge City Schools would like to thank Coach Vanderink for his contributions both in the classroom and to our football program,” said Superintendent Jeff Ferguson. “We will immediately begin an internal process of creating a search committee to secure his replacement and wish him the best of luck in the future.”
