Dunbar Primary and Munroe Elementary to Host Annual Food Drive

TALLMADGE, OHIO (Nov. 15, 2017) – Tallmadge City School District’s Dunbar Primary and Munroe Elementary Schools, will be hosting their annual Food Drive, Nov. 13 – 17.  This is the fifth consecutive year of the Food Drive.

“We are excited for another successful year of the Food Drive” said Audra Bulgrin, Dunbar and Munroe School Counselor and Food Drive Coordinator. “It is great to see our students, staff and community members working together for a cause that will directly support students within our district.”

This year, a majority of the items collected will be donated to the Tallmadge Dare to Share program. This program is run by the Tallmadge High School Family and Consumer Science program. With the help of the Family, Community, Careers and Leaders of America (FCCLA) Club, Tallmadge Rotary Club, Tallmadge Lions Club, SDMyers and the Tallmadge United Methodist Church, the program assembles the Nutrition on the Weekend (NOW) bags. This district-wide initiative provides students in need a backpack full of food to be taken home each Friday.

Students, staff and residents are encouraged to donate any non-perishable food. The most needed items are cereal, peanut butter, oatmeal, granola bars, juice boxes, fruit cups, individual mac and cheese servings, whole grain snacks and canned tuna.

Donations can be dropped off at either Dunbar or Munroe during school hours. Collection boxes for the items will be located outside of the main office in both buildings.  Residents are asked to enter the building through the main office and notify the main office staff that they have a donation for the food drive.

In addition to the Munroe and Dunbar food drive, Ritchie’s Sporting Goods in Tallmadge is hosting a food drive the entire month of November to support the Dare to Share program.

Items Dare to Share is unable to use will be donated to Tallmadge Good Neighbors.

“As we approach the holiday season, this is the perfect time to reflect on what we are thankful for and give back to those in need,” said Superintendent Jeff Ferguson. “I encourage all students, staff and residents to make a donation, even if it is just one item. Your donation will have a lasting impact on the students benefiting from the Dare to Share program.”
